Jamie

“How the fuck did she get back here?” I slam the door to our dressing room, then yank it back open when I see more than just the guys are in here. “Get out.”

The girl sitting on Gabe’s lap crawls off and scurries away.

Kolby tosses back a shot of whiskey, dropping the plastic cup into the trash. “I gave her a pass.”

“You gave her a pass?” I mock.

“Yup.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you?”

He shrugs like what he did was no big deal. “She came to the house lookin’ for you, told her to come back after the show to find you.” I don’t even have words, so he keeps running his mouth. “Her face was all puffy and shit, looked like she was crying.”

“So the fuck what?”

He crosses his arms. “You’ve sure got lots of anger for a chick you don’t give a shit about.”

My palms dampen, and I feel sweat dripping down my back. My damn jaw is still throbbing from her slapping me… deservedly. God, she fucks me up.

“Who is this chick?” Gabe asks.

“Not mine anymore, is she, Kolby?”

“God, not this shit again. What do you want me to say? I fucked her. So what? Didn’t mean shit. You want her, go get her. I don’t give a fuck.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

I shake my head, curling my lip in distaste. “I’m outta here.” I can’t stand to be near him. I could barely last night and I don’t know how I managed to perform with him at my back, but there’s no way I can look at him right now. Mike follows me but doesn’t say anything until I’m in the parking lot. I don’t want to hear what he has to say, either. “Leave me alone.”

“No way.” He grabs my arm but I yank it out of his grip. “What the hell is going on with you and this chick?”

“Nothing. She showed up because Kolby’s a fucking moron.”

“Why aren’t you with her if she’s here?”

I shake my head, the truth forcing its way to the surface, hitting me with the knowledge that it’s so much easier to be pissed at her than admit how I feel. How she makes me feel all the things I never knew I needed. “I don’t know,” I admit. Should I go after her? Maybe. Probably. Yeah… I should. I should just ask her, grow a damn set of balls and ask her why the hell she played me like she did. It’d have been less insulting if she didn’t leave a number at all, but to leave the wrong one?

“Well, you’ve gotta figure this shit out ’cause the last thing we need is you and Kolby at each other’s throats.”

Just then, Kolby comes out, and before he can open his mouth, I cut him off. I don’t give a shit what he has to say. “You’re going the wrong way. She went out the front.”

“I don’t want her.”

“Yes, you do.”

He waves me off and turns to go back inside.
